In a bid to improve hygiene and learning conditions in public schools, Create That Change Development Initiative (CCDI), in partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland, has commissioned refurbished facilities at two schools in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
The projects, unveiled at LEA Pilot Science Primary School and LEA Phase III Primary School, feature a reconstructed 12-stall toilet block and two fully refurbished libraries. They mark the first phase of CCDI’s Public-School Revival Initiative (PSRI), aimed at enhancing sanitation, restoring dignity, and providing inclusive learning spaces for children.
Speaking at the event, CCDI Executive Director, Mrs. Sharon Ayeni, stressed that access to clean toilets is a basic right, not a luxury. She explained that the project was inspired by CCDI’s Start Smart September outreach, where pupils identified toilets and libraries as their most urgent needs.
The Deputy Ambassador of Switzerland, Mr. Sayer Rouhani, joined CCDI to officially commission the facilities.
For the Headteacher of LEA Phase III, Mr. Abdel Liza Njibri, the intervention was a long-awaited relief. “For more than 10 years, this school did not have a functional toilet. It is God that sent CCDI and the Swiss Embassy to us,” he said, noting that the support also included payment of school fees and provision of books and bags for less privileged pupils.

Also reflecting on the initiative, CCDI volunteer and former pupil of the school, Ms. Oluwamu Mirayo Ame, described the transformation as “a dream come true,” recalling that the toilets were once regarded as a “haunted house” by pupils.
The project aligns with Nigeria’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) agenda and builds on CCDI’s earlier efforts, including the delivery of toilet facilities to LEA Primary School, Kabusa, and LEA Nomadic Primary School, Apo Dutse, in July 2025.
CCDI is a registered Nigerian non-governmental organisation committed to improving children’s lives through interventions in education, health, and community development.
