President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to enhancing healthcare facilities for all Nigerians, emphasizing the priority placed on both domestic and foreign investments in the sector.
Tinubu made these declarations during a meeting with Professor Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), alongside a delegation from King’s College Hospital, London (KCH).
Commending the collaboration between Afreximbank and KCH London to establish the Africa Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja by 2025, Tinubu underscored the significance of this venture in elevating healthcare standards.
Expressing readiness to support the project, Tinubu stated, “We welcome this significant step towards investing in Nigeria’s healthcare sector. This facility is a great commitment to humanity. We are open and ready to assist this project in every way possible.”
Highlighting Nigeria’s commitment to healthcare, Tinubu stressed the imperative of prioritizing the welfare of the people, particularly through healthcare advancements. He acknowledged the pivotal role of training and development, expressing gratitude to KCH for its partnership.
As the newly appointed African Union (AU) Champion for Human Resources for Health and Community Health Delivery Partnership, Tinubu emphasized Africa’s need for improved healthcare accessibility and quality.
Tinubu urged Afreximbank to persist in its investment endeavors aimed at bolstering Africa’s healthcare infrastructure, thus reducing medical tourism and fostering intra-African trade.
Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, disclosed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Afreximbank for a $1 billion facility to finance healthcare sector investments, further illustrating the government’s commitment to healthcare advancement.
In response, Professor Oramah reiterated Afreximbank’s dedication to enhancing healthcare infrastructure across Africa and reducing medical tourism, while also promoting intra-African trade and generating employment opportunities.
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, provided insights into the discussions, highlighting the government’s proactive stance towards healthcare development.
