Tinubu hails Uba Sani at 55, praises leadership and democratic credentials

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, as he marks his 55th birthday on December 31, commending his lifelong commitment to democracy, principled leadership and inclusive governance.

In a congratulatory message, the President described Governor Sani as a trusted ally, friend and fellow traveller in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle, whose life and career offer enduring lessons, particularly for younger generations.

Tinubu recalled that Governor Sani embraced the cause of a free and egalitarian society early in life, choosing the path of sacrifice and conviction rather than personal gain. He noted that as a student leader and pro-democracy activist during the era of military rule, Sani stood firmly for justice, freedom and national unity at a time when fear and repression were widespread.

According to the President, Governor Sani represents a rare generation of leaders whose ascent to public office was preceded by struggle and principle, values which have continued to shape his conduct in leadership. He said Sani’s experience in the struggle for democracy has matured into statesmanship, reflected in his humility, empathy and resolve in office.

Tinubu also highlighted Governor Sani’s record in the 9th National Assembly, where he served as a Senator of the Federal Republic. He described him as a reform-minded legislator whose contributions, particularly the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2020, demonstrated foresight and a deep understanding of Nigeria’s economic future. The President noted that the legislation strengthened financial stability, encouraged innovation, supported fintech growth and expanded access to credit for businesses and entrepreneurs.

Since assuming office as Governor of Kaduna State on May 29, 2023, Tinubu said Sani has brought a new tone to governance anchored on compassion, dialogue and reconciliation. He credited the governor’s inclusive leadership style with uniting communities, healing ethnic and religious divisions and restoring trust across the state.

The President observed that areas previously plagued by insecurity, including Birni Gwari, have witnessed renewed stability, with farmers returning to their farms and agricultural activities rebounding. He attributed these gains to the governor’s engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders and local communities as partners in peace and development.

Tinubu further praised the Sani administration’s achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, industrialisation and agriculture, noting that the governor has demonstrated a clear understanding that development must be equitable and people-centred. He said the administration’s efforts have improved access to healthcare, strengthened food security and laid the foundation for sustainable economic growth in Kaduna State.

Describing Governor Sani as a loyal and dependable ally of the Federal Government, Tinubu commended his commitment to the ideals of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.

As Governor Uba Sani marks his 55th birthday, the President expressed pride in his journey from pro-democracy activist to a key figure in Nigeria’s democratic consolidation, wishing him good health, strength, wisdom and greater accomplishments in service to Kaduna State and the nation.
