Tinubu mandates CNG vehicle procurement for government agencies

In a decisive move towards energy security and cost reduction, President Bola Tinubu has mandated the procurement of compressed-natural-gas (CNG) powered vehicles for all government ministries, departments, and agencies.

According Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, this directive aims to cut high fuel costs and promote cleaner energy.

Speaking at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of transitioning to CNG-enabled vehicles, which produce lower emissions and offer a more affordable energy alternative. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to energy reforms, stating, “This nation will not progress if we continue to dance on the same spot. We must set the example as public officials and lead the way to a prosperous future.”

The President instructed the rejection of proposals for traditional petrol-dependent vehicles, urging council members to seek CNG-compliant alternatives. This initiative is part of Tinubu’s broader strategy to harness Nigeria’s gas potential, reduce transportation costs, and improve the standard of living for all Nigerians.
