President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Islamic scholar and leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who died on Thursday at the age of 101.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President describe the revered cleric as a “moral compass” and a lifelong advocate of peace, piety and moderation, the President said Sheikh Bauchi’s death represents a monumental loss to his family, his followers and the entire nation.
President Tinubu recalled the spiritual guidance and moral support the late Sheikh offered him in the build-up to the 2023 presidential election, noting that his teachings and influence transcended religious boundaries.
“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Qur’an, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void,” he said.
The President extended his condolences to the Tijjaniyya community and all followers of the late scholar across Nigeria and beyond, urging them to honour his memory by upholding his teachings of peaceful coexistence, devotion to God and kindness to humanity.
