Tinubu submits 2024 NDDC budget proposal to House of Representatives

The House of Representatives has received the 2024 Statutory Budget Proposal for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from President Bola Tinubu for consideration.

House Spokesman/Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr. Said the budget proposal, transmitted to the House via a letter dated May 20, 2024, was read on the floor of parliament on Tuesday. Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the session, read the letter addressed to Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, Speaker of the House of Representatives. The submission is in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

According to the letter, the budget is based on NDDC’s revenue and expenditure forecasts and aligns with the fiscal and developmental policies of the Federal Government. President Tinubu stated that the proposal supports the Renewed Hope Agenda and considers the 2024-2026 Economic Recovery Growth Plan and the 2024 Appropriation Act.

The President emphasized that the NDDC budget prioritizes security improvements, job creation, youth and women empowerment, social welfare, education infrastructure, and agricultural productivity. These priorities aim to foster economic growth in the Niger Delta region and contribute to the country’s overall development.

“I trust that the House of Representatives will expeditiously consider and approve the 2024 Statutory Budget Proposal of the NDDC. Please accept, Rt. Honourable Speaker, the assurances of my highest consideration and regards,” the letter read in part.

Following the reading, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Kalu referred the proposal to the House Committee on NDDC for further legislative action.
