Tinubu urges states to prioritize grassroots for effective governance

President Bola Tinubu has called on state governments to prioritize grassroots communities by ensuring accountability and enhancing the effectiveness of local government administration.

According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President made this appeal during a meeting with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the Presidential Villa on Thursday.

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of local governance in a constitutional democracy, urging governors to address the needs of local populations. “People reside in local communities where they work, farm, and live. If local governments are ineffective, we as leaders must reassess our approach,” he stated.

Highlighting the critical role of education in nation-building, President Tinubu labeled the high number of out-of-school children in Nigeria as unacceptable. He stressed, “Education is a tool against poverty and essential for national development. We must prioritize it to improve our people’s conditions.”

On security, the President praised National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu’s efforts and pledged to invest in technology to enhance national security. “We are committed to ensuring Nigeria’s security and protecting its citizens,” he affirmed.

President Tinubu also addressed economic development, particularly in livestock management, advocating for better collaboration between herders and state governments. “We can significantly grow our economy through improved dairy farming. We are ready to support herders with the necessary resources,” he declared.

The President concluded by appealing for national unity and continued support for his administration’s efforts to tackle longstanding challenges. He announced the formation of a committee led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to follow up on the issues raised during the meeting.

The ACF delegation, led by Barrister Bashir Dalhatu, commended President Tinubu’s achievements in his first year in office, particularly in agriculture, education, and infrastructure development. The Forum expressed confidence in the President’s commitment to addressing the needs of Northern Nigeria.
