In a decisive follow-up operation, troops from the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) apprehended the owner of an abandoned vehicle and another suspect on September 8, 2024.
The operation stems from a recent incident on September 5, when troops in Bantaje, Wukari LGA, intercepted a suspicious Blue Toyota Yaris, registration number Taraba KLD 652 XA, and discovered an AK-47 rifle and other incriminating items hidden within the vehicle.
In a statement, Acting Assistant Director, 6 Brigade Army Public Relations Captain Olubodunde Oni said the driver had fled the scene, escaping into nearby bushes.
He said subsequent investigations and intelligence efforts led to the arrest of Mallam Abubakar Adamu, the vehicle’s owner, who was apprehended in Mutum Biyu.
Oni said Adamu confessed during interrogation that he had sent the driver, who remains at large, to transport the weapon from Doruwa village to Wukari, Taraba State. Additionally, troops arrested Mallam Isah Ibrahim, a union driver, believed to be an accomplice in the operation. Both suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation to determine the full extent of their involvement in criminal activities and to locate the fugitive driver.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their dedication and emphasized that these arrests underscore their commitment to maintaining peace and security in Taraba State. He also expressed gratitude to the residents for their cooperation, urging them to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security efforts in the region.
