Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted multiple terrorist attacks in Katsina and Kebbi states, neutralising two terrorists, rescuing abducted construction workers and recovering arms and operational motorcycles.
The troops also supported the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in a joint operation that led to the seizure of illicit drugs in Katsina State.
On August 14, 2026, troops of Sector 2 responded to reports of terrorist activity in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State. The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, neutralising two of them and forcing the remaining fighters to flee.
One AK-47 rifle and a magazine were recovered from the terrorists during the operation.
In a separate operation under Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV in southern Kebbi State, troops responded to a distress call over the abduction of construction workers at Tsatsunbe village.
The troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee. Three motorcycles were recovered from the fleeing terrorists.
All the abducted construction workers were rescued and safely returned to their camp. One of the workers, who sustained injuries during the incident, was evacuated to a military medical facility, where he is receiving treatment.
In Katsina State, troops also supported operatives of the NDLEA Malumfashi Area Command in a joint raid on a suspected drug peddler’s hideout in Gozaki village, Kafur Local Government Area.
The operation resulted in the recovery of significant quantities of illicit drugs, which were handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and appropriate action.
The Theatre Command said the operations underscored the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect communities, safeguard critical economic activities and deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements, protecting vulnerable communities and creating a secure environment for residents to conduct their legitimate activities without fear.
