Troops of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 13 kidnapped victims during separate intelligence-driven operations in Zamfara State, dealing another setback to terrorist groups operating in the North-West.
The successful operations were carried out in Anka and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas following credible intelligence on the movement and activities of armed terrorists.
In the first operation, troops of Sector 2 deployed in Bagega responded swiftly to intelligence indicating that terrorists riding motorcycles were advancing towards Tungan Kudaduku in Anka LGA. Supported by real-time surveillance, the troops tracked and engaged the criminals with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee into the surrounding bush.
A follow-up search of the area led to the discovery of a makeshift terrorist camp, where five kidnapped civilians were rescued unharmed.
In a separate operation at Ungwan Rogo in Kaura Namoda LGA, troops acted on intelligence reports of terrorist activities in the area. On making contact, they engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, compelling the criminals to retreat in disarray and abandon their captives.
The operation resulted in the rescue of eight additional kidnap victims, while two vehicles were also recovered.
Military authorities said all 13 rescued victims have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for medical attention, profiling and other necessary support.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said its troops continue to dominate the operational environment through sustained offensive operations and intelligence-led missions aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and dismantling criminal networks across Zamfara and the wider North-West region.
