Tuggar anticipates unveiling new foreign policy vision for Nigeria

Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has announced the forthcoming introduction of the administration’s fresh foreign policy vision in the coming days. The announcement was made on Monday as he resumed his duties at the Ministry subsequent to his swearing-in at the ministerial inauguration ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Tuggar, a former Nigerian ambassador, shared these intentions during a reception held at the spacious Rotunda Hall, accommodating over 200 attendees comprising his friends, supporters, and Ministry staff who had gathered to welcome him. He expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking at the brief gathering, attended by dignitaries including the Emir of Bichi, Nasir Ado Bayero, Tuggar also appealed for the assistance of the Ministry’s staff in advancing Nigeria’s position on the global stage. He emphasized that it is their collective responsibility to uphold the Ministry’s esteemed standards, especially in the face of challenges stemming from the current circumstances.

Acknowledging the complexities brought by the prevailing situation, Tuggar underlined that the appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs by President Bola Tinubu is a remarkable honor. He highlighted the ministry’s pivotal role in safeguarding Nigerian interests and the well-being of its citizens abroad, stressing the enduring significance of maintaining excellence. Tuggar rallied each member to contribute actively, given the demanding times characterized by ongoing political unrest in Niger Republic, regional security concerns, and economic uncertainties.

In the forthcoming days, Tuggar pledged to engage with numerous individuals from the Ministry to gain deeper insights into its requirements and to devise strategies to address the myriad challenges. He assured that a novel vision for Nigeria’s foreign policy would be presented in due course, one that emphasizes the four Ds: development, democracy, demography, and diaspora. This approach, he stated, would entail contemporary solutions to tackle intricate contemporary issues. Tuggar expressed his reliance on the collective support and partnership of the Ministry’s personnel, believing that, through their combined efforts, Nigeria can be elevated to its rightful position at the zenith of regional and global decision-making.

Ambassador Adamu Lamuwa, the Permanent Secretary, remarked that the Ministry had long hoped for a proactive minister who would swiftly initiate impactful actions. He conveyed the staff’s high expectations that Minister Tuggar’s capacity and leadership would propel the Ministry to new heights.
