UN hosts training to promote disability inclusion in Nigeria

The United Nations in Nigeria is conducting a Multi-Stakeholder Capacity-Building Training on Cross-Cutting Approaches and Preconditions for Disability-Inclusive Development from July 2 to July 5 at the UN House in Abuja. This initiative aims to enhance disability inclusion in Nigeria.

Mr. Mohamed Fall, the UN Resident Coordinator, emphasized the UN’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and equitable society where everyone can realize their full potential, regardless of barriers they may face. He reiterated the UN’s dedication to ensuring that the rights of the disability community are met.

UNESCO Representative in Nigeria and Chair of the UN Disability Interagency Group, Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo, highlighted the importance of the training in building capacity, strengthening partnerships, and creating an enabling environment for disability-inclusive development. He stressed that persons with disabilities should be active contributors to the country’s social, economic, and political fabric.

Organized by various UN agencies and stakeholders, the workshop aims to accelerate the meaningful inclusion of the rights of persons with disabilities. It seeks to enhance understanding of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy, and Nigeria’s Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act.
