As Ramadan begins globally, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has distributed 50 tonnes of dates to the Kano State Government and other northern Nigerian states as part of its annual humanitarian efforts.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Nigeria announced: “The Consulate General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Kano held an official ceremony to distribute 50 tonnes of dates to the Kano State Government and other northern Nigerian states. This initiative, facilitated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), aims to support vulnerable families and further strengthen the longstanding ties between both nations.”

During the event, the Consul General of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in Kano, Khalil Admawy, reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s dedication to humanitarian causes. He expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continued commitment to aiding Muslim communities worldwide.
He highlighted that the Kingdom remains steadfast in its mission to foster Islamic solidarity and provide relief to those in need. In addition to the 50 tonnes allocated to Kano and other northern states, he noted that an earlier consignment of 50 tonnes was distributed in Abuja last week.

Admawy further stated that this initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s tradition of supporting Nigeria through humanitarian aid. He also announced the upcoming launch of the Iftaar Programme, scheduled to take place on the third day of Ramadan in Abuja, as another gesture of goodwill by King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
The Consulate assured that, in collaboration with local authorities and humanitarian organizations, it will ensure the effective distribution of the dates to reach the most vulnerable families.
Since its establishment, KSrelief, in partnership with 175 United Nations member organizations, has completed over 2,500 projects worth more than $7 billion, benefiting 91 countries worldwide.
