PDP dissolves Akwa Ibom exco, names 31-member caretaker committee

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved the Akwa Ibom State Executive Committee and inaugurated a 31-member caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs in the state.

The decision, reached at the NWC meeting on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, is in exercise of the party’s constitutional powers under the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017). The caretaker committee will administer the Akwa Ibom chapter for an initial period of three months or until a new State Executive Committee is duly elected.

The caretaker committee is chaired by Igwat Umoren, with Harrison Ekpo as Deputy Chairman and Borono Bassey as Secretary. Other officers include Barr. Ewa Okpo (Publicity Secretary), Emman Mbong (Organising Secretary), Hon. Aniekan Asuquo (Youth Leader), Mary Silvia Abara (Woman Leader), and Barr. Enoch Enoch (Legal Adviser).

In a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the NWC urged party leaders, stakeholders, and members in Akwa Ibom to remain united and work collectively to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.

“The NWC calls on all leaders, critical stakeholders, and teeming members of our party in Akwa Ibom State to remain united and continue to work together for the progress of the PDP,” the statement read.
