Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced his withdrawal from the gubernatorial primaries of the All Progressives Congress, citing the need to preserve peace, stability, and unity in Rivers State.
In a statement addressed to the people of the state, Fubara said the decision followed extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates. He described the move as a painful but necessary sacrifice in the overall interest of Rivers State.
The governor stated that leadership often requires personal ambition to give way for the collective good, stressing that the state’s peace and progress must remain paramount at a critical period in its political history.
Fubara expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty, prayers, and sacrifices throughout the political process, acknowledging the disappointment many may feel over his decision. He noted that his silence in recent weeks had been deliberate and guided by the desire to protect the larger interest of the state.
Without revealing details, the governor hinted at facing significant political pressure and difficult choices, saying some matters were better handled with restraint and wisdom for the sake of peace.
He also thanked the APC for providing him with a political platform and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.
Fubara urged party members and supporters to remain united and committed to the APC, describing the party as their collective political home.
The governor emphasized that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as an act of weakness or surrender, but rather as a decision driven by conviction and sacrifice to allow Rivers State move forward peacefully.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the end of his tenure.
