At the 2023 edition of the Information, Communication, Technology and Telecommunications (ICTEL) expo organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in Lagos, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, emphasized the need for businesses to adapt to disruptive technologies. These technologies have been embraced worldwide to boost productivity and ensure sustainability.

Addressing industry leaders and ICT innovators, Prof. Danbatta, represented by Mr. Alkasim Umar, the Director of Consumer Affairs Bureau at the Commission, highlighted the significant role technology has always played in shaping our world. However, he noted that recent years have witnessed an unprecedented acceleration in technological advancements, particularly in the ICT industry.

The 4th Industrial Revolution, driven by the Internet and various emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Fifth Generation (5G) connectivity, has fundamentally changed all aspects of people’s lives, reshaping economic, social, and cultural paradigms globally.

In light of these tech disruptions, Prof. Danbatta emphasized the importance of embracing innovation and adapting to the evolving landscape for businesses to remain competitive. He assured that the NCC’s strategic management plan is dedicated to leveraging technology and innovation to transform industries and drive positive change.

Dr. Michael Olawale-Cole, the President of LCCI, commended the NCC for providing a predictable telecom regulatory environment. The theme of the ICTEL Expo was carefully chosen to reflect the far-reaching impact disruptive technologies have on businesses worldwide.

During the event, an LCCI Appreciation Award was presented to Prof. Danbatta for his significant contribution to the success of the 2023 ICTEL Expo, and it was received by Engr. Yomi Arowosafe, NCC’s Zonal Controller for Lagos.

The Executive Vice Chairman urged everyone to work together to build a Nigeria where technology acts as a catalyst for inclusive growth, encourages innovation, and ensures connectivity benefits every Nigerian.
