Air Strikes target oil thieves in Niger Delta, IPOB elements in Southeast and terrorists in Northeast

The pervasive influence of air power, driven by its exceptional speed, extensive reach, and remarkable adaptability, once again took center stage as multiple aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) simultaneously obliterated criminal factions operating across various regions of the nation.

According to Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, in the Niger Delta Region, precise air strikes were directed at the malevolent activities of oil thieves, which have persistently harmed both the local environment and the nation’s oil production. Building upon prior aerial reconnaissance missions, NAF aircraft operating under Operation Delta Safe conducted air interdiction missions on August 11, 2023, targeting an illicit refining site located to the Southwest of Bille, a coastal town in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State. On the same day, aerial assaults were also extended to a well-known camp belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Orsumoghu, situated within the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Gabkwet highlighted that intelligence had uncovered the presence of IPOB elements within makeshift camps, indicating their preparations for an impending assault on innocent citizens. Thus, a preemptive strike was executed with resounding success to neutralize the threat.

Similar air strikes were concurrently carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai at a site approximately 1.5 kilometers East of Arra, a previously abandoned hideout for terrorists near the Sambisa Forest. Gabkwet revealed that prior reconnaissance of this location had identified a concentration of terrorists who had regrouped there following their expulsion from areas surrounding Lake Chad due to relentless bombardment by NAF aircraft. Consequently, the site East of Arra was targeted to eliminate the terrorists and prevent them from establishing a stronghold, effectively disrupting their potential to launch attacks against friendly forces and innocent civilians.

Subsequent footage of the strike’s aftermath validated its success, as numerous terrorists were neutralized, structures were razed, and the surviving insurgents were observed scattering in disarray. Ultimately, their capacity to pose a threat to both friendly forces and innocent civilians was significantly degraded.
