FG reaffirms commitment to gas-driven economic growth

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to leveraging Nigeria’s abundant gas resources to drive industrial growth and economic prosperity. Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, Olufemi Soneye, announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made this statement during the commissioning of three critical gas infrastructure projects in Ohaji-Egbema, Imo State, and Kwale, Delta State.

The projects, executed by NNPC Limited and its partners, include the expansion of the AHL Gas Processing Plant, the ANOH Gas Processing Plant, and the 23.3km ANOH to Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Custody Transfer Metering Station Gas Pipeline Projects. These initiatives are expected to supply approximately 500MMscf of gas to the domestic market, representing a 25% increase in gas supply for the power sector and gas-based industries.

President Tinubu emphasized his administration’s clear intention to utilize gas to deepen domestic gas usage, enhance national power generation, revitalize industries, and create jobs. He highlighted the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative aimed at transitioning Nigerians from petrol and diesel to cleaner fuels and noted the progress made in incentivizing gas development through Presidential Executive Orders.

Tinubu congratulated NNPC Limited, Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO), and Seplat Energy on their successful collaboration. He urged NNPC Limited to continue its efforts to advance the energy sector for the benefit of all Nigerians. The President underscored the significance of these projects as part of the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative and its broader goal of eliminating gas flaring and accelerating industrialization.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, praised the President’s leadership and highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to using gas as a transition fuel towards achieving clean energy by 2060. NNPC Ltd. GCEO, Mr. Mele Kyari, reiterated the company’s dedication to growing domestic gas utilization for power generation and industrialization.

The President assured citizens that these projects are just the beginning, with the government committed to coordinating additional landmark initiatives to realize gas-fueled economic prosperity. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating ease of doing business for investors in the energy sector.
