Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, has reaffirmed the division’s commitment to maintaining its medical facilities for the welfare of troops and their families.
In a statement, Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma said this assurance came during a visit by Acting Corps Commander Medical (CCM), Brigadier General Samson Okoigi, to the 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt Barracks.
Major General Abdussalam emphasized that the upkeep of medical facilities is a crucial element of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s welfare-focused command philosophy. He highlighted the recent enhancements in military healthcare, such as the deployment of MRI and CT scan machines, which have significantly improved the quality of care available to personnel.

The GOC expressed optimism that Brigadier General Okoigi’s visit would further enhance the state of medical services within the 6 Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR). He praised the efforts of Col Showunmi Solomon, Director of the Military Hospital Port Harcourt, and Col Felix Odiase, Commander of the 6 Division Medical Services and Hospital (DMSH), for their commendable service and effective utilization of medical facilities.
Brigadier General Okoigi stated that his visit aimed to assess the condition of the medical facilities firsthand and to strengthen ties with the GOC. He acknowledged the Nigerian Army Medical Corps’ (NAMC) advancements, supported by the COAS, citing the recent deployment of advanced medical equipment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna as a significant achievement.
During the visit, Brigadier General Okoigi addressed ongoing challenges at the 6 DMSH and expressed gratitude for the GOC’s continuous support. The tour included a visit to the 6 DMSH and the 29 Battalion Medical Reception Station, culminating in a tree-planting ceremony as part of the division’s biodiversity campaign.
