Gov Okpebholo condemns Edo killings, orders more security deployment

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has strongly condemned the recent attacks on seven farming communities in Ovia South West Local Government Area, which claimed 22 lives and caused extensive property damage.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Fred Itua, the governor also denounced the killing of two farmers, Batemue Philip Ebo and Christopher Bello, in Okpekpe, Etsako East Local Government Area, by suspected herdsmen.

The Ovia South West attacks, reportedly carried out by militants, left several others injured while buildings and farm produce worth millions of naira were destroyed.

“We will not tolerate any form of violence or lawlessness in Edo State,” Okpebholo stated. “We will work tirelessly to ensure those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice and prevent future occurrences.”

In response, the governor has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to the affected areas and pledged support for impacted communities.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety of all Edo residents,” he said. “Our administration will collaborate with security agencies, traditional leaders, and community members to restore peace.”

He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as efforts to address the crisis continue.
