Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has urged Border Patrol Commanders nationwide to strengthen their efforts in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and preventing cross-border crimes.
Speaking at a conference with the commanders at Force Headquarters, Abuja, Egbetokun described them as the nation’s “first line of defence” against external threats, stressing the need for renewed determination in discharging their duties.
He highlighted the vast and complex nature of Nigeria’s borders and commended the Border Patrol Unit for its role in tackling evolving crimes. The IGP emphasized the adoption of modern technology—including surveillance systems, drones, biometric scanners, and real-time data analysis—to combat 21st-century security challenges.

Egbetokun also underscored intelligence-led policing, community trust, and inter-agency collaboration as critical to effective border security. He assured officers of his commitment to prioritizing their welfare while urging them to remain vigilant in preempting and preventing criminal activities.
“The Nigeria Police Force will continue to secure the nation, safeguard its people, and defend its sovereignty,” he affirmed.
