The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited affected communities in Oyo State following the recent attack and abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area, directing an immediate intensification of search-and-rescue operations.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja DCP Anthony Okon Placid said the visit, which took place on Friday, 15 May, 2026, followed the early morning attack that left several persons dead and others abducted, prompting a coordinated security response across the area.
Expressing concern over the incident, the IGP extended condolences to the families of victims and assured residents that the Nigeria Police Force is fully committed to securing the safe return of all abducted persons.
He was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ojo Adekimi, and the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, in view of the proximity of the affected axis to border communities and ongoing efforts to strengthen school and community security.

The IGP met with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, along with other security stakeholders, where he received operational briefings on rescue efforts and current deployments in the affected communities.
He condemned the attack as cruel and unacceptable, stressing that no effort would be spared in restoring peace and normalcy to the area. He further ordered the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to reinforce ongoing operations in the surrounding communities and forested areas believed to be used by the attackers.
The Police authorities reaffirmed that coordinated operations with other security agencies had been scaled up, with a focus on intelligence-driven tracking of the perpetrators and the safe recovery of abducted victims.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to the protection of schools, communities, and citizens across the country, assuring that efforts to combat violent crime would be sustained and strengthened.
