In response to the escalating wave of violence in Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of police tactical assets to restore peace and ensure the safety of affected communities.
According to Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the directive follows a series of brutal attacks that began on March 28, 2025, particularly in Bokkos Local Government Area, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. The IGP has tasked the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, mni, to lead and coordinate this critical intervention.
The police deployment includes highly trained tactical units, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), surveillance drones, helicopters, Police Mobile Force units, and Special Intervention Squad (SIS) platoons. These assets are being strategically positioned to conduct targeted operations aimed at halting the cycle of violence and preventing further attacks.
DIG Kwazhi arrived in Plateau State on April 8, 2025, where he met with the Executive Governor, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, to express the IGP’s condolences and assess the situation on the ground. Discussions focused on the root causes of the violence and the development of long-term strategies for sustainable peace.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to working closely with the Plateau State Government, local communities, and other security agencies to bring perpetrators to justice and restore calm. Residents are urged to support security efforts by providing timely and relevant information.
