The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has extended heartfelt condolences to the people, government, and leadership of Borno State, including Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima, following the devastating floods in Maiduguri and surrounding areas.
In a statement released on Friday, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, Director General of the IPCR, expressed sympathy for those affected, saying, “Our thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods due to this devastating flood.” He acknowledged the severe impact on the already vulnerable communities, emphasizing the need for urgent and sustained assistance.
The IPCR highlighted the resilience of the Borno people, who have faced challenges including insurgency and displacement. Dr. Ochogwu urged partners, stakeholders, and the international community to provide immediate relief in the form of shelter, food, and medical care, stressing the importance of swift action to address the urgent needs of displaced and vulnerable populations.
Dr. Ochogwu called for long-term support to help Borno rebuild, including investment in sustainable infrastructure, agriculture, and economic empowerment programs to enhance community resilience. He also emphasized the importance of inclusive response efforts that consider the diverse needs of all affected groups.
Reaffirming IPCR’s commitment, Dr. Ochogwu stated, “We stand in solidarity with the government and people of Borno and will continue to support them and humanitarian agencies in their response efforts. We are dedicated to promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.”
He concluded with a call for collective action, urging everyone to support the people of Borno during this challenging time.
