Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Primary for Edo South Senatorial District after securing a commanding victory in the party’s contest.
Results announced at the end of the exercise showed that Ize-Iyamu polled 33,399 votes to defeat his closest rival, Hon. Matthew Ogbeide-Ihama, who garnered 12,560 votes.
The outcome of the primary is being viewed by supporters as a strong endorsement of Ize-Iyamu’s political leadership, experience, and longstanding influence within the district.
Party faithful and supporters across Edo South described the exercise as a reflection of the widespread grassroots backing enjoyed by the former governorship candidate, particularly in Orhionmwon Local Government Area and other parts of the senatorial district.
Despite reports of pressure and attempts to influence the process, supporters maintained that the large turnout and voting pattern demonstrated the determination of delegates to choose their preferred candidate.
Observers at the exercise noted that the primary underscored the significance of grassroots mobilisation and internal party support in determining electoral outcomes.
With the victory, Ize-Iyamu is now set to fly the APC flag in the forthcoming Edo South Senatorial election as the party intensifies preparations for the general polls.
