The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, October 8, 2025, adjourned the trial of former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd), to October 31, 2025, to enable the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regularise its list of witnesses.
Justice Charles Agbaza granted the adjournment following a request by EFCC counsel, O. Atolagbe, who informed the court that the Commission needed additional time to update the witness list in the ongoing case involving an alleged ₦33.2 billion fraud.
Dasuki is facing prosecution by the EFCC on an amended 32-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and money laundering. He is being tried alongside a former General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Aminu Baba-Kusa, and two companies — Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Referral Hospital Limited.
One of the charges alleges that Dasuki, while serving as National Security Adviser in November 2014, dishonestly disbursed ₦10 billion — equivalent to $47 million and €5.6 million — purportedly meant for special security services, but allegedly diverted for political purposes during the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary election.
All defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, EFCC detective Adariku Michael testified that the Commission acted on intelligence in September 2015 concerning large-scale financial movements from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) between October 2014 and April 2015.
However, Solomon Umoh, SAN, counsel to Baba-Kusa, objected to the testimony, arguing that Michael’s name was not included in the EFCC’s initial witness list. In response, Atolagbe clarified that the witness had previously testified before the Chief Judge and had already submitted relevant documents to the court.
Noting that the case had lingered for nearly a decade, Atolagbe requested an adjournment to update and regularise the EFCC’s list of witnesses. The defence raised no objection to the request.
After hearing both parties, Justice Agbaza adjourned the matter to October 31, 2025, for continuation of trial.
