The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has inaugurated a Centre of Excellence in Abuja, designed to equip Nigerians with vital technical and vocational skills to bolster the digital economy.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, expressed his vision for the centre, stating, “My expectation is that NCC will collaborate with more stakeholders to make this initiative a true centre of excellence for Africa. There is no society in the world that can prosper without connectivity. The connectivity requires humans for its proper functioning.”
Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, highlighted the significance of the centre, noting, “This is the first time in Nigeria when our radio engineers will have the opportunity to come and touch and feel what a radio looks like.” He added that with the advent of the 5G era and the skills acquired by engineers and other Nigerians, “we would actually see a lot of innovations through this Centre.”
