The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed Ibiza Nite Club, De Hive Night Club, and 12 other facilities in Abuja over multiple violations of environmental laws.
Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, NESREA Director General, Prof. Innocent Barikor, said the enforcement action followed public complaints and subsequent inspections which confirmed that the affected facilities were in breach of various environmental standards.
Prof. Barikor revealed that Ibiza Nite Club and De Hive Night Club had exceeded permissible noise levels, contravening the National Environmental (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations, 2009. Despite receiving three compliance notices, the facilities failed to address the infractions, prompting their closure to protect public health and ensure compliance.
Additionally, NESREA investigated Dai Jin Jia Investment Limited following residents’ complaints of indiscriminate blasting. The agency found multiple violations, including excessive noise, air pollution, and unsafe blasting practices that breached the National Environmental (Quarrying and Blasting Operations) Regulations, 2013. The explosives used—measuring 4,000kg—exceeded the regulatory limit of 3,000kg per blast, while the blasting hole depth of 14 metres also surpassed the prescribed 8–10 metres.
The agency also sanctioned eleven construction-related facilities for operating without required environmental documentation, such as Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Audit Reports, in violation of the National Environment (Construction Sector) Regulations, 2011.
The affected facilities include:
-
Shaanxi Construction, Airport Road
-
Brmley Home, Katampe
-
Clover Court, Mabushi
-
Skyscape Real Estate Ltd, Sabon Lugbe
-
Richardo Estate, Wuye
-

-

-

-

Prof. Barikor reiterated NESREA’s commitment to safeguarding the environment and emphasized that non-compliance with environmental regulations will continue to attract strict enforcement actions.
