In response to allegations by the Kano state chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association, the Nigerian Army has denied involvement in the ongoing Kano emirate dispute. According to a statement by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the troops have not enforced any court orders related to the tussle.
The Army’s focus, Nwachukwu emphasized, is on preventing any potential breakdown of security. “Our primary concern is maintaining law and order to prevent adversarial non-state actors from exploiting the situation,” he stated. The military is currently monitoring developments and is prepared to support the police if the security situation escalates beyond their control.
Nwachukwu clarified that the Army’s actions are purely precautionary, aiming to ensure peace and stability in Kano and the broader region.
