The Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (NAEME) on Friday, August 23, 2024, held a grand ceremony at the 65 Battalion Parade Ground, Bonny Cantonment, Lagos, to honor 17 retired generals for their distinguished service to the Corps, the Nigerian Army, and the nation.
According to Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations Headquarters, Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Captain Nuradeen Bello, the event, marked by a formal pulling-out parade, celebrated the illustrious careers of these senior officers as they bid farewell to active service.
Major General Moses Uzoh (Rtd), a former Corps Commander of NAEME and Director General of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, served as the Special Guest of Honour. In his valedictory address, General Uzoh, who was among the retired officers being honored, emphasized the importance of endurance, determination, and prayers in achieving success. He expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities he had to serve and contribute to the growth and development of NAEME and the Nigerian Army.

Highlighting the significance of the Corps within the Nigerian Army, General Uzoh reiterated NAEME’s role as an elite unit, crucial to the Army’s logistics and operational support. He urged the Corps to maintain its leading position by proactively applying science and technology to meet the dynamic needs of the Nigerian Army.
General Uzoh also extended his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, for his unwavering support to the Corps, particularly in the areas of infrastructural development and strategic initiatives aimed at restoring its past glory. He further thanked Major General Baba Umaru Yahaya, Commander of NAEME, for organizing the pulling-out parade and praised the dedication of the Corps’ personnel and past commanders in ensuring NAEME’s continued relevance.
In his welcome address, Major General Yahaya acknowledged the significant progress made by the Corps since the retired generals left service, noting the substantial training support provided by the COAS at the Corps School in Auchi. He highlighted the development of a new auditorium and a state-of-the-art mechatronics workshop as key achievements.
Major General Yahaya also expressed his profound gratitude to the retired generals for attending the ceremony and thanked all dignitaries present, including the General Officer Commanding 81 Division NA, Flag Officer Commanding West, the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, senior military officers both serving and retired, members of sister security agencies, civilians, and family members who graced the occasion.
The event was marked by a series of activities, including the presentation of awards and certificates, and group photographs to commemorate the occasion.
