The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has reiterated its dedication to enhancing local content development in Nigeria’s energy sector to drive sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
Speaking at the 13th Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) Forum in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Group Chief Executive Officer Mallam Mele Kyari, represented by the Executive Vice President, Upstream, Mr. Udobong Ntia, highlighted the forum as a key platform for stakeholders to assess progress, share best practices, and explore growth opportunities.
Kyari emphasized the transformative impact of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010, which has positioned local businesses to compete globally. “We have a shared responsibility to empower local firms and drive innovation, ensuring a robust oil and gas sector that meets both local and international demands,” he said.
He also referenced the recent Presidential Directive on Local Content Compliance Requirements for 2024, noting it underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to making local content a cornerstone of national strategy.
NNPC Ltd.’s ongoing initiatives to boost local capacity include the restructuring of NNPC Exploration and Production Ltd. (NEPL) and the expansion of NNPC Engineering and Technical Company Ltd. (NETCO) into a full-scale engineering firm.
Kyari encouraged participants to engage actively and forge partnerships that will accelerate Nigeria’s journey toward energy self-sufficiency. “Together, we can cultivate a vibrant local content ecosystem that benefits all Nigerians,” he concluded.
Dignitaries at the event included Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhurdjakpo, Ministers of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (Oil) and Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo (Gas), and Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, among others.
The PNC Forum, hosted by the NCDMB, continues to be a vital platform for advancing local content in Nigeria’s energy industry, with this year’s theme focused on “Defining the Next Frontier for Nigerian Content Implementation.”
