The Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in joint operations with the Nigerian Army and Police, has foiled repeated bandit attacks on farmers in Nteng village, Deomak District, Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The intervention followed a directive from the NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to restore peace in communities plagued by insecurity. According to the Commander of the Special Intelligence Squad, Commandant A.S. Dandaura, the communities had suffered sustained assaults from suspected bandits who exploited the mountainous and swampy terrain, as well as the absence of access roads, to launch attacks on farmers and residents.
“These attacks led to the destruction of farm crops, homes, and the Primary Health Centre, displacing more than 4,000 farmers, many of whom have been sheltering in a primary school refugee camp within Qua’an-Pan,” Dandaura said.
He explained that the coordinated security operation, which included a joint guard post mounted by the Army, has restored civilian confidence and enabled displaced residents to begin returning to their homes. Communities such as Doop, Keolakan, Jepmorop, and Gorom were among those affected.
Dandaura added that the NSCDC has conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the area in preparation for the deployment of its Agro Rangers Squad. The unit will provide dedicated security for farmers, mediate between herders and farmers, and prevent further attacks or reprisals.
NSCDC spokesman CSC Afolabi Babawale, in a statement from Abuja, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting critical national assets and supporting food security by safeguarding farming communities from violent disruptions.
