NSCDC arrests suspected oil thieves and cable vandals in FCT

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended two suspected oil thieves and two alleged armored cable thieves in separate incidents within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, announced the arrests on Thursday during the presentation of five male suspects, aged between 25 and 37, at the FCT command. He disclosed that the Command, acting on credible intelligence reports, had captured two individuals found in illegal possession of 16 jerricans containing petroleum products suspected to be crude oil in Pai, Kwali Area Council of the FCT. Odumosu stated, “An ongoing investigation aims to determine the origin of these products and uncover the individuals orchestrating these operations from behind the scenes.”

In addition, two other individuals believed to have vandalized electrical infrastructure within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) premises were also taken into custody. The Commandant emphasized that investigations are actively progressing to unveil all those involved in these unlawful activities, including their sponsors and clients.

The Commandant also reported the apprehension of a suspect for stealing a flat-screen television from Maitama District Hospital. He asserted that the Command is employing proactive measures to combat and suppress the actions of miscreants and criminals, driving them into concealment.

Odumosu added, “We are determined to combat the theft and vandalism of crucial national infrastructure perpetrated by individuals posing as scavengers. The uncontrolled influx of these so-called scavengers has polluted the FCT for years. However, we are witnessing improvement and a breath of fresh air in every corner of the metropolis.”

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eradicating all forms of vandalism and criminality within the FCT, stressing that there would be no compromise on their efforts.

In addition to these actions, the Command also observed the International Day of Peace 2023, with the theme “Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals.” Odumosu emphasized the importance of peace, urging people to love their neighbours, show human sympathy, and resolve disputes in a civil and diplomatic manner. He stated, “As human beings, we must embrace peace to make the world a better place. In Nigeria, a nation that has endured socio-political and religious turmoil, celebrating Peace Day is particularly significant. It provides an opportunity for all Nigerians, regardless of their socio-cultural, political, or religious differences, to unite in the pursuit of peace, security, and well-being.”
