The Rilwan Akiolu has pledged the full support of Lagos’ traditional institution to the anti-corruption efforts of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), reaffirming a commitment to promoting accountability and integrity.
The monarch gave the assurance on Thursday while receiving the Acting Zonal Director of EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Bawa Usman Kaltungo, who led a delegation of senior officers on a courtesy visit to the palace in Lagos.
Oba Akiolu described the visit as a sign of respect for the traditional institution and a reflection of shared values centred on justice and collaboration. He characterised the EFCC’s mandate as more than administrative, describing it as a moral obligation critical to sustaining Lagos’ status as a global economic hub.
“In a city like Lagos, the integrity of the financial system is fundamental to prosperity,” the monarch said, warning that corruption must be confronted with transparency and firm justice.

He commended the Commission’s efforts in tackling economic and financial crimes, while stressing that the fight requires strong institutions and collective commitment.
“Your request for fatherly support is hereby granted with the full weight of the Throne,” he said, pledging cooperation alongside the Council of Chiefs to promote a culture of accountability across the state.
Earlier, Kaltungo conveyed the goodwill of EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, and expressed appreciation for the monarch’s reception.
He said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the EFCC and traditional authorities, noting their influence in shaping societal values and promoting ethical conduct.
Kaltungo added that engaging key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, remains essential to advancing the Commission’s mandate of combating corruption and fostering transparency.
He expressed confidence that closer cooperation with the palace would help reinforce integrity and accountability for the benefit of society.
