Police arrest kidnap suspects, boost security in Bwari border communities

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified security operations across border communities in Bwari Area Council, following the arrest of three suspected kidnappers linked to recent abduction incidents.

Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, on April 8, 2026, led a strategic operational tour of Gidandogo, Garam, and Kungabako villages—areas located along the borders of the FCT, Niger, and Kaduna states. The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to assess and strengthen security deployments in vulnerable communities.

During the operation, police operatives arrested three suspects identified as Nasiru Abdullahi, Samaila Dahiru, and Bello Usman. According to preliminary investigations, Abdullahi and Dahiru, both from Kweri village in Kaduna State, were responsible for the abduction of a farmer, Mallam Bako, from his farmland in Gushawai village on the same day. The victim was reportedly taken to a forest in Kweri, where a ransom of ₦50 million was demanded before he was eventually rescued by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

Police findings further linked the suspects to a separate attack in Byazhin community, where about 20 persons were abducted.

The third suspect, Bello Usman, also known as “Dagejo,” is described as a long-standing informant and logistics supplier who had been on the Command’s watchlist for two years. Authorities say he coordinated with armed groups from Kaduna State to facilitate criminal activities within the FCT. Items recovered from him include an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 12 rounds of live ammunition.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to public safety, the Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.

The FCT Police Command stated that operations in the affected areas will continue as part of sustained efforts to curb kidnapping and related crimes.
