Rwandan Embassy, UNIC collaborate to commemorate 30th anniversary of 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda

In anticipation of the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda, observed annually on 7th April, a significant partnership has been forged between the Rwandan Embassy and the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC). His Excellency Ambassador Christophe Bazivamo, representing the Rwandan Ambassador to Nigeria, convened a meeting on Wednesday, 21st February 2024, with Ronald Kayanja, Director of UNIC, and his team to discuss plans for commemorating the 30th anniversary of the tragic events.

During the meeting, both parties expressed their commitment to collaborating on various activities aimed at honoring the memory of those who lost their lives during the genocide. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of global solidarity in acknowledging and commemorating historical atrocities while striving for peace, reconciliation, and prevention of such horrors in the future.

The Rwandan Embassy and UNIC are expected to announce specific details of their joint commemorative initiatives in the coming weeks, which will likely include educational events, memorial services, and advocacy campaigns to raise awareness about the significance of remembering the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

As the world marks three decades since the tragic events of 1994, this partnership between the Rwandan Embassy and UNIC serves as a poignant reminder of the collective responsibility to uphold the values of peace, tolerance, and respect for human rights, and to ensure that the lessons learned from the genocide are never forgotten.
