Shettima to unveil book on Nigeria’s counterterrorism operations

Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to unveil a new book documenting Nigeria’s counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations in the North-East as senior security officials, military commanders, diplomats and scholars gather in Abuja for the public presentation on Thursday.

The book, titled Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency Operations in Northeast Nigeria, was authored by retired Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf, a former Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force and ex-Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

The presentation is scheduled to take place at the National Defence College from 9:00 a.m.

Shettima is billed to attend as the Special Guest of Honour and Chief Unveiler alongside governors, members of the National Assembly, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, retired military officers, diplomats and other stakeholders in Nigeria’s security sector.

Organisers said the two-volume publication captures Yusuf’s operational experiences, strategic reflections and lessons drawn from years of military campaigns against Boko Haram and other insurgent groups operating across the North-East and the wider Lake Chad Basin.

According to the organisers, the publication is expected to deepen national security discourse while contributing to military scholarship, defence studies and historical documentation of Nigeria’s prolonged insurgency conflict.

The books will be reviewed by Eghosa Osaghae, Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, who is expected to examine the work’s strategic, historical and policy implications for Nigeria’s security architecture.

The event is also expected to stimulate broader discussions on counterterrorism operations, security sector reforms and evolving military strategies required to address asymmetric threats confronting Nigeria and neighbouring countries within the Lake Chad region.

Organisers further urged media organisations and defence correspondents to provide extensive coverage of the event, describing it as significant to ongoing national security debates and the documentation of Nigeria’s counterinsurgency history.
