Sudan War: Foreigners ordered to leave Khartoum within 15 days

The governor of Khartoum State, Mr. Ahmed Osman Hamza, has issued an order giving foreigners 15 days to leave Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. The directive, announced on Thursday, came from the Security Committee following a meeting to review the enforcement of the curfew and motorcycle ban.

Effective from July 11, 2024, the governor extended a 15-day deadline for foreigners to vacate the state, citing safety concerns amid ongoing conflict. In early May, Governor Hamza, with the approval of Sovereignty Council head and Commander-in-Chief of the Army Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, declared a state of emergency due to the war against the Rapid Support Forces militia.

The Director of the Department of Foreigners and Immigration Registration in Khartoum State announced the evacuation order, emphasizing the need to protect foreigners’ lives during the conflict, based on the decision of the Khartoum State Security Affairs Coordination Committee.

Reports suggest that some nationals from neighboring countries and the region have become key fighters and mercenaries for the Rapid Support Forces militia.
