In a bid to fortify the regulatory oversight of Nigeria’s capital market, President Bola Tinubu has greenlit the appointment of a cadre of distinguished professionals to the Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The appointed members are as follows:
- Mr. Mairiga Aliyu Katuka – Chairman
- Mr. Emomotimi Agama – Director-General
- Frana Chukwuogor – Executive Commissioner (Legal and Enforcement)
- Mr. Bola Ajomale – Executive Commissioner (Operations)
- Mrs. Samiya Hassan Usman – Executive Commissioner (Corporate Services)
- Mr. Lekan Belo – Non-Executive Commissioner
- Mr. Kasimu Garba Kurfi – Non-Executive Commissioner
President Tinubu has underscored the pivotal role of the SEC in fostering a capital market that is characterized by dynamism, fairness, transparency, and efficiency. He anticipates that the newly constituted Board will leverage its wealth of experience and expertise to advance the commission’s core mandate, thereby bolstering investor confidence and making significant contributions to the nation’s economic development.
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, reiterated the President’s confidence in the appointed members’ ability to steer the SEC towards achieving its regulatory objectives and ensuring the integrity and stability of the capital market.
