Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled a coordinated terrorist attack on Kukareta in Borno State, killing at least 24 insurgents and recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition.
Confirming the report, Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI Lieut. Col. Sani Uba said the Joint Task Force (North East), operating under Sector 2, said the attack began shortly after midnight on April 23, 2026, but was swiftly repelled following a coordinated response by troops on ground.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the troops executed a combined offensive and defensive manoeuvre that contained the assault and forced the attackers into a disorganised retreat.
During the engagement, security forces inflicted significant casualties on the insurgents. Subsequent exploitation of the battlefield led to the recovery of 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns, two PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, three rocket-propelled grenade tubes, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, and 18 AK-47 magazines, along with large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.

The military disclosed that two personnel were wounded in action and have since been stabilised, while one armoured vehicle sustained damage after its tyres were blown out during the exchange.
Troops have continued follow-up operations along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, where blood trails and abandoned medical supplies were discovered, indicating further casualties among the fleeing fighters.
Military authorities said the successful defence of Kukareta underscores the combat readiness and operational resilience of troops in the North-East, adding that sustained offensive operations would continue to deny terrorists freedom of movement and restore lasting security across the region.
