The Nigerian Navy has recorded significant gains in ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations under Operation FASAN YAMMA in the North-West, rescuing kidnapped victims and neutralising violent extremist insurgents.
In a statement, Director of Information Nigerian Navy Captain AA Folorunsho said its troops, deployed across key locations, executed a series of coordinated engagements against armed groups, demonstrating sustained operational effectiveness in support of internal security efforts.
On April 18, 2026, personnel stationed at Forward Operating Base Ibira responded to distress calls following gunfire along the Doka–Ibira axis. Upon arrival, the troops engaged suspected insurgents who had attacked civilians. A firefight ensued, forcing the attackers to retreat and abandon their victims.
Five victims were rescued during the operation. Four sustained gunshot wounds and were evacuated to a hospital in Idon for treatment, while one victim died from injuries. The victims’ vehicle was also recovered, and troops commenced follow-up operations to track down the fleeing assailants.
In a separate operation on April 20, troops of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade, acting on intelligence, carried out a successful ambush at Anguwan Haske, resulting in the neutralisation of one insurgent and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle. No casualties were recorded among the troops.
Similarly, personnel at Forward Operating Base Dokan Karji responded to a distress call from Kushere Village, where armed elements had abducted civilians. The troops engaged the attackers in a gun battle, overpowering them and securing the release of three kidnapped victims without injury.
The Navy said the operations highlight its continued contribution to national counter-terrorism efforts, stressing its commitment to sustaining pressure on violent groups threatening peace and stability.
It also called on members of the public to support security agencies with credible information to enhance ongoing operations across the country.
