The United Kingdom Home Office International Operations (HOIO) has highlighted the success of its collaboration with Nigeria in combating substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
According to the HOIO, recent achievements by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reflect the positive impact of this partnership.
Victoria Pullen, Head of the HOIO, made this statement during a visit to the NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), in Abuja. She praised the ongoing cooperation, noting that drug trafficking is a global issue requiring a collective effort. Pullen cited the increased volume of illicit drug seizures by the NDLEA as evidence of the success of their collaboration.
“We are seeing significant successes, and this cooperation is working exceptionally well,” Pullen stated. She also mentioned the recent commissioning of the NDLEA Marine Command Headquarters in Lagos, built and donated by the UK government, as a key milestone in their joint efforts.
Marwa expressed gratitude for the UK’s support, emphasizing the importance of the partnership. He highlighted the impact of UK contributions, including operational facilities and intelligence sharing, which have strengthened NDLEA’s capacity. Marwa also called for continued assistance from the UK in the fight against transnational drug trafficking.
The visit concluded with the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NDLEA and the HOIO, further cementing their shared commitment to tackling the global drug problem.
