The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has emphasized the critical need for objective monitoring of road and other infrastructural projects in Nigeria.
He stated that such monitoring is pivotal to the realization of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” vigorously pursued by the administration of President Bola Tinubu, GCFR.
In an official statement Special Assistant Media to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Busola Kukoyi said the Minister Umahi made these remarks during an interaction with State House correspondents following a courtesy visit to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, in her office at the State House, Abuja.
Highlighting the deteriorating state of road infrastructure in the country as “frightening,” the Minister underscored the importance of courage in addressing the challenges at hand. He commended the previous administration for its thoughtful allocation and awarding of key projects, which he believes will lead to an economic revolution.
Minister Umahi also identified the lack of effective supervision and contractor dishonesty as significant challenges that the Federal Government must contend with in infrastructure development.
He stressed, “The President, Minister, and Governors have set the stage, and we have allocated the necessary resources for these projects. It is now incumbent upon us as Nigerians to ensure that these projects are executed correctly for the benefit of all. When failures occur, we should assign blame where it rightly belongs, not solely placing blame on leadership when individuals fail to fulfill their responsibilities.”
Additionally, Minister Umahi commended the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her ongoing initiatives, particularly the “Renewed Hope Initiative,” which aims to uplift and empower the nation’s citizens.
In light of the Minister’s call for objective monitoring and accountability, it is expected that stakeholders and concerned Nigerians will play an active role in ensuring the successful implementation of infrastructure projects across the country.
