Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has expressed profound sorrow over the demise of the former President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ali Chiroma.
Comrade Ali Chiroma passed away on Tuesday night at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 91.
In a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on New Media to the Governor, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, Governor Zulum conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives of late Comrade Ali Chiroma. He emphasized the inevitability of death and urged the bereaved to find solace in the mercy of Almighty Allah.
Governor Zulum paid tribute to Ali Chiroma’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers, describing him as a true champion of the working class. He lauded Chiroma’s fearlessness and dedication, highlighting his pivotal role in advocating for the rights of Nigerian workers during his tenure as NLC President from 1984 to 1988.
The late Ali Chiroma’s illustrious career included serving as the President of the defunct Rural Health Workers of Nigeria, now known as the Medical and Health Workers Association, in 1960.
Governor Zulum offered prayers for the repose of the departed soul and extended his sympathies to the family, praying for them to find strength and fortitude in this time of profound loss.
Additionally, Governor Zulum expressed his condolences to the Borno Elders Forum, recognizing the significant contribution of Ali Chiroma as a dedicated member of the forum.
The passing of Ali Chiroma leaves behind a legacy of advocacy, dedication, and service to the Nigerian labor force, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
