The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has directed that academic staff in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions who fail to obtain a Master’s degree within five years of employment will be converted to non-teaching staff.
In a circular signed by the Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, the Board expressed concern over the reluctance of some Bachelor’s degree and Higher National Diploma holders employed as academic staff to upgrade their qualifications.
The directive grants a five-year moratorium for staff to acquire a Master’s degree, after which non-compliant employees will be reassigned. The measure, according to the NBTE, takes immediate effect and is aimed at strengthening academic standards across TVET institutions.
Prof. Bugaje urged strict compliance with the directive, reaffirming the Board’s commitment to raising the quality of technical and vocational education in Nigeria.
