The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Dr. Nekabari Dambere Nathan, a Port Harcourt-based medical doctor, for allegedly defrauding a consulting firm of over N39 million under the guise of processing foreign visas and job placements.
Dr. Nathan was arraigned alongside his firm, Global Horizons Academy Ltd, before Justice P. I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, on a one-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence and advance fee fraud to the tune of N39,157,000.
According to the EFCC, the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum from Justice Toojah Iyieagbu, Managing Director of Riskout Consults, under the pretext of securing visas and employment opportunities in Canada, Ireland, and the United States for several clients.
The charge reads in part:
“…with intent to defraud, did obtain the sum of N39,157,000 from Justice Toojah Iyieagbu… for visa processing for his clients, a pretence you knew to be false…”
Nathan pleaded not guilty to the charge. Prosecution counsel A. Abubakar requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in custody. Defence counsel Friday Otanjah applied for bail on medical grounds.
Justice Ajoku adjourned the case to June 25, 2025, for the bail hearing and ordered that the defendant be remanded in EFCC custody. The trial is set to commence on November 27, 2025.
Dr. Nathan was arrested following a petition alleging that he posed as both a professional care-giving trainer and a travel agent, convincing students through Riskout Consults that he could secure travel documents, job placements, and register them for IELTS exams. After collecting the funds, he allegedly failed to deliver and became unreachable.
