FRSC deploys 30,000 personnel for Eid El-Kabir patrol

The Federal Road Safety Corps has commenced nationwide special patrol operations ahead of the 2026 Eid El-Kabir celebrations, deploying more than 30,000 Regular and Special Marshals to ensure safer highways, smooth traffic flow, and rapid emergency response across the country.

According to the Corps, the special operations will run from May 25 to May 31, 2026, as part of its annual festive intervention strategy aimed at reducing road crashes, fatalities, gridlock, and other traffic-related emergencies associated with increased vehicular movement during the Sallah period.

The Corps said the exercise would focus on strategic traffic management at identified black spots and flashpoints, prompt rescue operations, immediate clearance of obstructions, and strict enforcement of traffic regulations on major highways nationwide.

To support the operation, the FRSC said it had fully deployed operational logistics and equipment, including patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, motorcycles, radar guns, breathalysers, and other traffic control facilities to critical locations across the federation.

All Zonal Commanding Officers, Sector Commanders, and Unit Commanders have also been directed to sustain aggressive visibility patrols and ensure full coverage of designated corridors throughout the exercise.

The special patrol will target offences such as speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, operation of mechanically deficient vehicles, use of expired or worn-out tyres, and violations related to passenger manifests.

The Corps further disclosed that mobile courts would operate nationwide for the speedy prosecution of traffic offenders, while emergency rescue teams had been placed on maximum alert to respond promptly to distress situations.

The operations will run on a shift basis to guarantee 24-hour patrol coverage, with night rescue teams stationed at designated operational commands across the country.

Major corridors earmarked for intensive patrol include the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano route, Akwanga–Lafia–Makurdi axis, Kaduna–Saminaka–Jos highway, Ibadan–Ogere–Sagamu road, Sagamu–Mowe–Lagos expressway, Makurdi–Otukpo–9th Mile corridor, Asaba–Abraka–Ughelli–Warri axis, and the Okene–Ogori–Owo route, among others.

The FRSC added that it would collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, military formations, emergency medical service providers, and other stakeholders to strengthen traffic management and emergency response during the festive season.

The Corps urged motorists to remain patient, disciplined, and law-abiding by avoiding excessive speed, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, night travel, overloading, and other unsafe practices capable of endangering lives.

Road users were also advised to cooperate with officers on duty and make use of the FRSC toll-free emergency number 122 and the National Traffic Radio 107.1FM to report crashes, road obstructions, and other emergencies.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, reassured Nigerians of the agency’s readiness to ensure safer roads during the celebration and wished Muslim faithful and other road users a peaceful and crash-free Eid El-Kabir celebration.
