Zulum presents APC guber candidate Gubio to Tinubu, commends Northeast recovery efforts

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State on Friday presented the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Mustapha Gubio, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

During the meeting, Governor Zulum commended President Tinubu’s administration for its continued commitment to peacebuilding, reconstruction, and development efforts in Nigeria’s Northeast, particularly in areas previously affected by insurgency.

The governor noted that federal interventions in security operations, humanitarian support, and infrastructure rehabilitation have contributed significantly to stabilising affected communities and restoring public confidence.

He also praised the President’s leadership for strengthening unity within the APC and sustaining momentum in ongoing recovery initiatives across the region.

“The President’s commitment to peace and reconstruction in the Northeast has been unwavering,” Zulum was quoted as saying.

He was accompanied to the meeting by a member of the House of Representatives, Bukar Talba.

The presentation of Mustapha Gubio to the President comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections and is seen as part of efforts to consolidate the APC’s structure in Borno State, one of the party’s strongholds in the Northeast.

Gubio, a former commissioner and technocrat, recently emerged as the APC governorship candidate in Borno following the party’s internal selection process. His candidacy has drawn attention within political circles, given Governor Zulum’s influence and his administration’s ongoing focus on post-insurgency recovery, resettlement of displaced persons, and infrastructure rebuilding.

Since taking office in 2019, Zulum has gained national recognition for his hands-on governance style, including frequent field visits to conflict-affected communities and sustained investments in education, healthcare, and security coordination.

Borno State remains one of the regions most affected by over a decade of insurgency in the Northeast, with widespread displacement and loss of lives. However, recent years have seen gradual progress in reconstruction and resettlement efforts led by both state and federal authorities.
