Ibom Air has taken delivery of its third Airbus A220-300 aircraft, marking another major step in the airline’s fleet modernisation and expansion programme.
The aircraft, registered 5N-CDC, was formally handed over to the airline at the Airbus A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada, following the signing of the Transfer of Title documents by Ibom Air’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr George Uriesi.
The latest addition is expected to strengthen the airline’s operational efficiency and support the expansion of its domestic and regional network.
Speaking after the Transfer of Title ceremony, Uriesi described the delivery as a significant milestone for the airline, thanking the Akwa Ibom State Government for its continued support.
“We are most delighted to receive the third A220-300 into our growing, modern fleet,” he said.
He specifically acknowledged the support of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, noting that the airline’s expansion would not have been possible without the government’s commitment and confidence in Ibom Air.
Uriesi said the addition of the new aircraft would make the airline’s operations safer, more passenger-friendly, environmentally responsible and more efficient.
He added that the A220 would create new opportunities for Ibom Air as it expands its route network and strengthens its position in Nigeria’s aviation industry and the wider West African market.
The Head of the Airbus A220 Programme and Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Canada, Mr Guillaume Chevasson, congratulated Ibom Air on the latest delivery and reaffirmed Airbus’ commitment to supporting the airline’s growth.
Chevasson said the A220 was well suited to Ibom Air’s fleet modernisation strategy because of its operational flexibility, fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and strong performance across domestic and regional routes.
With the delivery of 5N-CDC, Ibom Air’s fleet has grown to 10 aircraft, comprising seven Mitsubishi Heavy Industries CRJ900 regional jets and three Airbus A220-300s.
The latest acquisition further reduces the average age of the airline’s fleet, reinforcing its position as one of the operators with the youngest and most modern fleets in Nigeria.
Ibom Air placed a firm order for 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft at the Dubai Airshow in 2021. The newly delivered aircraft is the second A220-300 received under the firm order, following the delivery of the airline’s first factory-new A220 in 2023.
The airline had earlier acquired an additional A220-300 outright in 2024, as it continues to pursue its long-term growth and fleet expansion strategy.
