The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a strong condemnation of all forms of discrimination, particularly racial abuse, while reaffirming its unwavering support for Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey.
In an official statement, the NFF emphasized its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all footballers, both on and off the pitch. The federation expressed deep concern over the recent racial abuse targeted at Bassey, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the values of fairness and sportsmanship that football embodies.
“Calvin has our full support, and we stand united in the fight against racism,” the NFF declared, stressing that discrimination of any kind has no place in football or society.
The NFF further reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on racism and other forms of discrimination, urging relevant football governing bodies, clubs, and fans to work together to eliminate such acts from the game. The federation called on global football stakeholders, including FIFA and CAF, to intensify efforts in combating racial abuse through stricter regulations, awareness campaigns, and disciplinary measures against perpetrators.
Additionally, the NFF encouraged players to continue speaking out against racism and assured them of its unwavering support in ensuring a discrimination-free football environment. It also urged social media platforms to strengthen their policies against online abuse, as digital spaces have become a major avenue for racial attacks on athletes.
The federation reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the integrity of the game and promoting unity, respect, and equal opportunities for all footballers, regardless of race, nationality, or background.
